Children of the Gloria Deo Nursery and Kindergarten at East Cantonment Estate in Accra have marked their end-of-term and Christmas break with a spectacular celebration, hosting their parents and guardians to carols and a play. The children performed songs like “Joy to the world”, “Jingle Bells”, “I saw three ships”, “Go tell it on the mountains” and “Nine Lessons and Carol”, as well as a play on the Biblical theme of love, hospitality and kindness. In the play, Brako, a poor but kind-hearted man, was blessed by the Lord who had disguised himself as a hungry and thirsty stranger to knock on Brako’s door for food. The kind Brako, also hungry and saving his last meal to share with a visiting friend, readily offered the food to the hungry stranger, who even refused to bath when offered water, because he was too hungry and needed the food urgently. Brako also dressed a big sore on the leg of this stranger, during which process the tired and dirty looking man screamed endlessly “agyei! Agyei! Agyei!” to underscore his pain and excite parents to spontaneous applause and giggling. But Brako soon found out that the poor man he had just nursed and cared for, was the same Lord Jesus who had appeared to him in a vision and promised to spend Christmas with him. The Lord Jesus then blessed Brako and he became a rich man – drawing lessons from the Biblical admonishing at Mathew 25:34-40 - “Then shall the King say unto them on the right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was hungry and you fed me. I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was a stranger and you invited me into your home, I was naked and you gave me clothing, ….And the King will tell them, I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me.” The children, aged between two and five , took home Christmas presents from the Proprietress, Mrs Grace Williams-Baffoe.
