Mr Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education, has observed that the inability of some parents to exercise disciplinary control over their children was negatively affecting the education of the kids.
Addressing a meeting of parents and teachers in the Nkwabeng Education circuit, Mr Agyemang-Badu reiterated that the proper upbringing and education of children demanded the collaborative efforts of both sides in the home and school.
The meeting reviewed the performance of Junior High Schools in this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and suggested ways of improving on the weak links.
Mr Agyemang-Badu held that children spent more contact hours at home than in school and urged parents to monitor the movement of their wards after school hours.
He also urged opinion leaders to regularly visit schools to help address pertinent problems facing them in order to improve on general standard of education.
The meeting observed that the pupils were spending more time at video shows, concerts, funerals and dances, than they spent on studies.
The participants also mentioned the use of the children for economic activities such as tabletop hawking that lasted deep into the night to the detriment of their studies.
