Mark Mensah, a scrap dealer at Anafo, a suburb of Sekondi, on Thursday appeared before a Sekondi District Magistrate's Court for being on a premise for unlawful purpose and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted 20 million cedis bail with one surety to re-appear on April 4 this year.Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Eben Darko, told the court that at about 9.00 a.m. on February 25 this year, a cleaner at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital saw the accused loitering around the hospital's mortuary.
He said the cleaner became suspicious and monitored the movement of the accused.
Chief Inspector Darko said the accused entered the cold room of the mortuary and removed a compressor motor valued at 7,000,000 cedis from a damaged air conditioner.
He said the accused hid the compressor motor under a palm tree about four meters from the mortuary but the cleaner raised the alarm and he was arrested and handed over to the Police.
In his cautioned statement, the accused admitted the offence and was charged after further investigations.Source: GNA
