Security has been strengthened in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, as part of measures by the regional police to ensure the impending 'Akwasidae Kese' comes off without any incident.

Joy News has learnt that the Director of Police Operations, COP John Kudalor is in the Ashanti region to ensure that security measures are put in place.

A number of police armoured vehicles and police hierarchy have been deployed to maintain law and order.

Outlining measures to ensure there are no breach of the peace in the capital during the festive occasion on Sunday, May 11, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye, Thursday, emphasized that due to the number of people, who will throng the stadium, it has become imperative that some roads in the metropolis are blocked.

"All roads leading to the stadium will be restricted. The Asokwa road will be closed and manned by police. All other roads surrounding the stadium will be free but access to the roads will be limited and controlled by the police", DCOP Boakye stressed.

Additionally, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander assured the numerous visitors, residents and participants at the celebratory event of their safety.

"Two main entrances will be used into the stadium and that will be used by the chiefs and their sub-chiefs, fifty VIP cars will be allowed into the stadium and persons without special designated access cards will not be allowed to park their cars in the stadium no matter their ranks", he indicated.

Furthermore, DCOP Boakye noted that two police posts will be mounted at designated locations, with the operational headquarters located at the Heroes park.

Police hospital vans will also be available to attend to the health needs of the expected large number of people, who will attend the event, the Regional police commander indicated, adding that all the 27 inner perimeter gates of the stadium will be closed and manned by both fire service and police personnel.

Meanwhile, DCOP Boakye said all the outer 40 gates of the stadium will be open to the public to access the stands.

Luv FM's Erastus Asare Donkor reports that there is presence of a number of armoured vehicles with armed police personnel around the town as increased police presence is expected as the event approaches.

Residents of Kumasi are also gearing up for the celebration, with other foreign media already present in town.
