The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was the toast of participants from 39 countries which took part in last weekend’s international carnival held in the Seychelles Islands in the Indian Ocean.

The rich Asante culture was on display at the ceremony that brought thousands of people to the island.

Joy News’ Elton Brobbey who was in Seychelles reports that the country’s economy is driven by tourism, accounting for nearly 90 percent of its gross domestic products.

Seychelles, he gathered, has a deliberate plan to continually attract the attention of the world.

The international carnival is one driving force bringing in tourists and money to boost the economy of the island country.

The country showcased their uniqueness in the presence of the Asantehene and the president of Seychelles.

Clad in kente cloth with gold ornaments and surrounded by about 50 chiefs and supporting staff, the Asantehene’s entry to the grounds drew patrons to the international conference center, and that meant tough crowd control for the security persons.

In a brief statement, Otumfuo Osei Tutu the second urged African youth to channel their energies into productive ventures and desist from violence.

Seychelles, with a population of 98,000 people scattered on 115 islands spread within the Indian Ocean has managed to attract the attention of the world through tourism, bringing in millions of dollars.

Head of the technical committee under-studying Seychelles’ rise to prominence, Ivor Agyemang Duah, is hopeful Ghana can learn a lot from the island.

Minister for Tourism and Creative Arts, Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare is optimistic that lessons learnt will influence the Ministry’s drive to make Ghana an attractive tourism destination in Africa.
