The Shalom Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has marked its 20-year milestone in Accra on the theme, “Let the Earth Hear: Sharing the Past, Envisioning a Transformed Future' Romans 12:2.”

Celebrating this milestone, the Minister-in-charge, Rev. Desmond Anyetei Nai, advised the members of the church to contribute their quota to the development of the country.

He said the only way the county can develop is when Christians honour their tax obligation.

Minister of the Haatso District of Presbyterian Church of Ghana Rev. Dr William Korle Quaye,  also urged the youth to concentrate on their education and not cut corners to get rich.

He advised them to acquire skills that can help them set up their own enterprise which can go a long way to reduce the unemployment situation in the country

The journey

In 2011, Shalom Congregation opened up for first and second services and has a membership of 332.

The Church was started after a two-day crusade featuring the International Christian Dance Fellowship of the Madina Immanuel Congregation BSPG, popularly known as the Drama and Dancing Team led by Mrs S. A. Newman and the singing wing called Vessels of Honour (Madina Immanuel).

The crusade was followed up with a house-to-house visitation program. Altogether, the evangelistic move at Mabey yielded 34 souls for the Lord, five of them joined the Mabey Presbyterian Church and 29 joined other churches.

Among the people who willingly and whole-heartedly supported this mission were Mad. Justina Adu Gyamfi, Mr. George Twum Ampofo (late), Mad. Rebecca Mensah and her parents, Dr and Mrs Ofosu Mensah who offered part of their residence as a place of worship to start the Mabey-Hatso Congregation.

After 2 years and 9 months of intensive service at Dr and Mrs Ofosu Mensah's residence, the church was able to acquire a plot of land with the help of Mr George Twum Ampofo (late). Due to the increase in membership of the churches, we started having services on the new plot of land.

On 5th August 2001, the first forenoon service was held on the church's plot of land under canopies bought by the church. In attendance, that day, were 53 members (20 males and 33 females).

Because the land was waterlogged, it was impossible to have church services during rainy seasons. The then Senior Presbyter, Mr Alexander Asiedu, welcomed us to his residence to have the forenoon service. In the same manner, Mr J. K. Brako allowed us to use his residence for evening meetings and other church activities.

On Sunday 24th April 2011, the Mabey-Haatso Presbyterian Church which was then a preaching post was inaugurated and elevated to a congregation with Rev. Dr Ayete-Nyampong (Now Clerk of the General Assembly) as first Minister in charge and Albert Nana Boakye (Reverend Minister) as Catechist. The name of the church now became Shalom Congregation. The inauguration service was conducted by the then Madina District Minister, Rev. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye.
