Incumbent General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie has suspended his campaign tour for re-election "until further notice".
Mr Owusu-Afriyie's decision follows an accident on Tuesday of one of his main contenders for the position, Mr Kwabena Agyempong.
Mr Owusu-Afriyie (Sir John) who issued a brief statement shortly after the accident said his campaign tour hold-up was in solidarity to the Mr Agyepong.
At about 2:15pm on Tuesday, April 8 Mr Agyepong and his campaign team were involved in a “terrible” accident, around Nsawam, on their way to Kumasi for a scheduled Press Conference.
The vehicle, a Toyota Prado, which was carrying Mr. Kwabena Agyepong and four of his aides, was heavily damaged in the process.

The affected victims are currently receiving medical treatment at the health facility and are in stable condition, according to a statement from Kwabena Agyepong's office.
It is not yet clear how the accident happened, but Davis Opoku-Ansah, an aide to Kwabena Agyepong told Adomonline.com Mr. Agyepong sustained minor injuries but the "campaign photographer is in critical condition".
He said Mr. Agyepong together with the photographer have been rushed to the 37 Military Hospital.
Sir John said in his statement that he will be proceeding to the 37 Military Hospital to visit Mr Agyepong and his team.
“I wish him and all those involved in the accident a speedy recovery”, he stated.
Sir John is facing off with Mr Agyepong, Yaw Boabeng Asamoah and Captain Nkrabea Effah Datteh (rtd) for the General Secretary slot.
