Unidentified gunmen have shot dead a small scale miner at Atwima-Techiman near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, Monday evening.
The deceased, identified only as Frimpong (aka Honourable) was shot many times by about five AK 47-wielding men at the entrance of his private residence.
Frimpong who operates Sam Henk Mining was returning from one of his mining sites at about 8:30 pm on Monday when the armed men shot him as he entered his house.
Frimpong was in the company of some Chinese nationals during the gun attack.
The assailants who shot indiscriminately after the attack -- ostensibly to scare off onlookers -- are believed to have trailed their victim in his vehicle before firing at him.
The unmasked five gunmen fled the scene of the attack in a Suzuki taxi with registration number AE 2013-12 which they snatched from its driver at gun point.
It is not clear whether the armed men also robbed the deceased or the Chinese nationals after the attack.
Onlookers, especially the Chinese nationals, who were in the company of Frimpong, remain traumatised after the violent incident.
The Crime Scene Unit of the Police Command arrived at the scene minutes later to see the lifeless body of Frimpong, soaked in blood and lying face-down amid shell casings.
Meanwhile, the police have mounted a search for the unidentified armed men.
