Madam Philippa Banson, Nkoranza South District Director of Education, has urged assembly members, unit committees and traditional rulers to educate parents to send their children to school. Madam Banson was addressing teachers of the local primary schools at Kyekyewere, Nwoase and Salamkrom at separate meetings during her working visit to the schools at the weekend. She expressed concern about how a number of children of school-going age were seen roaming in the communities whilst the schools were in session. She said if the Government and the District Assemblies should construct school buildings and equip them with furniture and learning materials but the younger generation and the “nation’s hope” would not go to school, then there was a big challenge that faced the country. Madam Banson, therefore, called on the opinion leaders of the communities to call a meeting of the people and encourage the parents to enroll their children in the schools. She stressed the need for School Management Committees (SMCs) and executives of the Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), to visit schools to interact with teachers to know their problems. Madam Banson said if they visited the schools and addressed problems facing teachers and pupils, there would be remarkable improvement in the conditions and academic work in the schools. She pleaded with religious leaders to use the pulpit to promote the development of education in the district. She also advised the teachers to redouble their efforts to bring improvement into the performance standards of the children. Madam Banson said since teachers were role models in the communities, they should eschew all forms of negative practices that could tarnish their image so as to earn respect from the people.
