Startrite Schools crowned the 2024/2025 academic year with a vibrant 18th Graduation and Awards ceremony, presenting 70 proud graduates with a renewed call for parental responsibility and learner wellbeing.
The event was held on Saturday, July 19th, at the school's serene New Bortianor campus near West Hills Mall. The event brought together educationists, parents, and key personalities from academia and health.
Under the theme “Screen Addiction: Signs, Effects and Reversal,” the ceremony aimed not only to celebrate academic success but to draw national attention to a growing public health concern —excessive screen time among children and teenagers.

Special awards were presented to outstanding students and dedicated staff in a gesture that showed the school's appreciation for hard work, discipline, and community service.
Mrs Alice Quartey, the Managing Proprietress, who gave awards to the best teacher and the best Non-Teaching staff, encouraged them to be motivated by the award and remain productive.

Delivering the keynote address, Mrs. Lilian Annan, a seasoned Nursing and Risk Management Consultant and Director of Nursing Services at The Trust Hospital, shed light on the psychological, emotional, and physical effects of screen addiction on children.
She pointed to practical, evidence-based strategies for reversing its impact, urging parents and educators to take early intervention seriously.
She warned that unchecked screen exposure is not just a habit but a health risk and asked parents, guardians, and trainers to join hands and consciously equip children with life skills beyond the screen.

Chairing the ceremony was Professor Ernest Tweneboah-Koduah, Professor of Social Marketing and Behaviour Change at the University of Ghana Business School, who lauded Startrite for championing learner-centred education while tackling topical issues facing families today.
He aligned with the topic and shared his personal experience with a relative in the USA who is suffering from screen addiction.

The day was filled with uplifting performances from the cadet corps and brass band, cultural displays, poetry recitals, and heartfelt tributes from learners and staff alike.
The Graduands were drawn from the school’s foundational unit, Kids World, as well as the Junior High and College divisions.

In his end-of-year address, Prof. Peter Quartey, the Executive Director and also Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), provided a review of the academic year, stressing the school’s continued commitment to excellence, innovation, and values-based education.
Established in 2007, Startrite Schools, with the motto “Knowledge for Life,” continues to grow as one of the capital’s leading private educational institutions, providing a holistic academic foundation and nurturing leadership, creativity, as well as social responsibility in learners.
