A leaked sex tape purportedly featuring a KNUST student and the Supreme Court giving two remarkable rulings on the same day made the Highest Court of Ghana and the institution dominate the news this week.

Monday, May 2, being a public holiday did not prevent the flow of stories. There was public outrage over some seemingly religious comments made by the vice presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Nana Akomea justified it saying Dr. Bawumia was talking about balance and inclusion and not division as perceived by many.

But the Christian Council said the comments were unfortunate.

Monday was also historic as porcupine warriors, Kumasi Asante Kotoko scored Accra Hearts of Oak 1-0 in the Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court dismissed Abu Ramadan's tape-recording evidence.

Also, Zanetor Rawlings called for the removal of Judge Ackah-Boafo from hearing a case concerning her candidature.

An alleged public showing of a sex tape at the KNUST campus was condemned.

And news came later on this day that the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako had turned himself in at the Regional Police Command in Kumasi.

This came after he was declared wanted by the Police for allegedly slapping the MP for Manhyia North and the constituency Secretary.

Some party supporters besieged the Central Police station demanding the release of the Chairman hours after he turned himself in.

Despite the outcry from the supporters, Chairman Wontumi was arraigned before court and granted a ¢20,000 bail on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court struck down a nearly 60-year-old law of non-bailable offences.

The highest court ruled that persons accused of crimes such as murder, rape and narcotics could be granted bail.

In another ruling on the same day, the Supreme Court ordered the Electoral Commission to delete from the electoral roll names of persons who have not established qualification to be on the register. This includes deceased persons, minors, and persons who used the NHIA cards to register.

But the Commission said it was already preparing to delete names of dead people before the ruling.

On Friday, the Member of Parliament for Okere constituency, Dan Botwe was robbed of some valuables at his residence in Tema at gunpoint. Fortunately, none of the members of the family were injured.
