The Governing Council and Management of Takoradi Polytechnic have inducted Sylvia Beatrice Oppong-Mensah into office as the first female registrar of the Takoradi Polytechnic.
Her appointment is in consonance with the constitutional provisions of the Polytechnic Act 2007, Act 745.
Mrs. Oppong-Mensah’s appointment and induction brings to three, the number of female Registrars in the country’s Polytechnics with the other two in Accra and Koforidua.
She is a conscientious, goal-oriented administrator who joined the Polytechnic eight years ago and has contributed to the achievement of the corporate goal and mission of the Polytechnic.
Before administering the oath of office, the Chairman of the Polytechnic Council, Professor George K. T. Oduro, congratulated Mrs.Oppong-Mensah for sailing through a rigorous and highly competitive search process and added that her selection brings a gender balance in the polytechnic’s Management.
The Chairman admonished her to be fair and firm in her administrative duties so as to gain the confidence of both the teaching and non-teaching staff in order to place the Polytechnic at the pinnacle of technical and vocational education in the country.
Prof. Oduro pledged the unflinching support of the Council to make her administration successful.
“Let me reiterate that we will not compromise on issues related to academic and administrative staff development, promotion of scholarship, creation of non-threatening atmosphere required for developing and sustaining a ‘we-feeling’ among staff and students.”
Mrs. Sylvia Beatrice Oppong-Mensah in her induction speech promised to make the working environment conducive for all staff to fully participate in the mission and vision of the Polytechnic as an institution of excellence in technical and vocation education.
“My primary task is to make the statues and conditions of service available to staff to create conscious awareness of statutory responsibilities, duties, rights, privileges and obligations among Senior Members, Senior Staff and Junior Staff of the Polytechnic” she added.
On his part the out-going Acting Registrar, Dr. Michael Adusei Boadu, assured the new Registrar of his unflinching support and also assured her that there are hardworking, dedicated, trustworthy and team-spirited staff that she can fall on to make her tenure of office a success.
