The Takoradi Polytechnic has enrolled students in three new programmes for the 2010/2011 academic year, namely, Bachelor of Technology in Printing; Bachelor of Technology in Procurement and Higher National Diploma in Tourism following approval by the National Accreditation Board.
Two additional transport-related programmes - International Professional Certificate in Logistics & Transport and International Professional Diploma in Logistics & Transport will formally be launched at the end of October.
Rev. Prof. Daniel A. Nyarko, Rector of the Takoradi Polytechnic, announced the programmes at the 20th matriculation ceremony of the polytechnic on Thursday, at which 2,480 students were admitted to various courses. He gave a breakdown of the admissions as follows: School of Applied Arts - 478, School of Applied Science - 138, School of Business Studies - 1,367, School of Engineering - 407 and Bachelor of Technology Programmes – 90.
According to the Rector, of the total number of 2,480 students admitted, 722 of them constituting 29% are females.
While congratulating the students, particularly the first year students for passing the polytechnic’s “stringent and competitive admission procedures”, he urged them to stay focused and attend to their studies with all the required seriousness.
“Three years is such a short time and it will soon elapse. Your objective should be to strive, to seek and to find knowledge and not to yield. As future Alumni of Takoradi Polytechnic and leaders of this country, you need to equip yourself with the necessary knowledge, ability and skills for the tasks ahead. Develop your skills for critical thinking and analysis of situations with the view to applying the knowledge you will be acquiring here at Takoradi Polytechnic to help solve societal problems,” he counseled.
