Some contractors in the Northern regional capital Tamale are threatening legal action against government over delays in payment for work done.
The contractors claim they are owed a total of 1.6 million cedis for work done on behalf of the northern regional poverty reduction programme.
At a press conference in Tamale on Wednesday, the contractors cited some of the projects as roads, schools and teachers’ quarters to be paid for by the Northern Region Poverty Reduction Programme by September 30, but no money has yet been paid.
The spokesperson of the aggrieved contractors known only as Abukari told Joy News correspondent Mahama Shaibu that several attempts to get their monies paid have fallen on deaf ears.
According to him, the Tamale Assembly claims it has handed everything to the Local Government to handle.
He said officials at the Local Government ministry are not forthcoming with money.
He stated their financiers and suppliers are unhappy with the delay in payment and appealed to the local government ministry to pay the debt owed them.
