It’s certainly not uncommon for Taylor Swift to use her platform to get behind charitable causes.
Earlier this summer, the Folklore singer unexpectedly paid the tuition fees of an 18-year-old aspiring mathematician in the UK. Now, she’s surprised a young fan in another inspiring way.
While this year has been incredibly difficult for us all, it’s been even tougher on those who are currently fighting illnesses – especially if it’s a rare condition like 8-year-old Hasti Brannigan, who has Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS).
For this reason, her father, Major Chris, walked Britain barefoot to raise £50,000 for research to help cure his daughter’s illness. The incredible feat earned him a Pride of Britain award, which involved a 700-mile journey from Land’s End to Edinburgh during the summer.
Throughout the 35-day trek, he carried a 25kg bag on his back and walked it without any shoes. While he set out to raise £50,000, he actually secured £500,000 to fund much-needed medical research.
It was so major that Taylor had to let her feelings be known to Hasti, a young Swiftie.
Wearing Folklore-inspired attire – an understated cream lace blouse and gold hoops – the singer filmed a short clip especially for the youngster. “Hi, Hasti and Major Chris. This is Taylor.
I just wanted to say to Major Chris that what you did fills me with so much admiration,” she said during the virtual awards ceremony. “You have raised so much money and awareness for charity.
And Hasti, you’re amazing! You’re so courageous and so inspirational. I really hope I get to meet you someday. You are the Pride of Britain!”
During the trek, Hasti joined her father to deliver a petition to Downing Street, asking for more support for rare diseases with no cure. Additionally, the Hope For Hasti Just Giving page has raised nearly £700,000.
