The Chief Executive of KAMA Group of Companies, Dr Michael Agyekum Addo, has challenged teachers to be more innovative and practical to make academic programmes more attractive and interesting. He pointed out that practical application of their skills in the classroom would not only make academic programmes, especially Mathematics and Sciences more lively, but would also make them easier to understand. Interacting with the teaching staff of the Jachie-Pramso Senior High School in a sensitisation programme organised by the school’s Old Students Association, Dr Agyekum expressed concern about the techniques of some teachers in handling class lessons saying, many of them were outmoded. He pointed out that at this computer age where electronic learning was becoming a global event; it was important for teachers to apply modern techniques in their teaching profession to improve standards and develop the potentials of their students for the competitive job market. He also challenged teachers to use their leisure periods to plan and establish small-scale businesses that would enable them to generate additional revenue to support their livelihood. He said no matter their salaries, teachers should be in the position to save a little of their income, accumulate capital and use them to start businesses in their own small way. “KAMA Pharmacy shop which has now grown to become a member of the Ghana Club 100 was started in the same way. I started the company on credit basis, and now employ over 250 Ghanaians, some of who are medical officers, nurses, Pharmacists and Administrators among others,” he said, stressing that “You can also do the same if you use the right side of the brain”. He said by doing so they would not only become imaginative, innovative and versatile in doing things, but they would also become more determined in their quest to succeed in life no matter the challenge that would confront them. Dr Agyekum said Ghana was blessed with a lot of natural resources waiting to be tapped and, therefore, urged them to take advantage of the situation. Making reference to the seven principles of success, a book that he authored, Dr Agyekum Addo said to succeed in life, it was equally important for them to develop the right attitude in doing things. Explaining, he said by developing the right attitude, they would not only be honest in their everyday life, but they would also be reliable, time conscious, truthful and God fearing, among other qualities.
