A 19-year-old farmer, who allegedly murdered his 17-year old girlfriend for refusing to terminate a six-month old pregnancy, has been arrested by the Oda Police.
The suspect, Bismarck Kwaku Danso, a.k.a. Okyere, has been remanded in prison custody by the Oda District Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Mr Albert Annor Owusu, to reappear on December 16 this year.
The police have also mounted an intensive search for one Kwaku Acheampong, an accomplice in the murder case who is on the run.
According to the Oda Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Ben Atadana, Danso was a friend to the deceased, Gifty Amaglo, both of whom lived at Akyem Ajobue in the Akyemmansa District of the Eastern Region.
He said in the course of their friendship, Gifty became pregnant, but she refused to abort it as Danso demanded.
ACP Atadana said at about 7p.m. on September 30, this year, Danso invited Gifty to accompany him to a nearby village, which she obliged.
He said on reaching the bush, the accused strangled the deceased, left the body on the footpath and fled to an unknown destination.
The Divisional Commander said the following day, passers-by came across the deceased in the bush, with both legs spread wide and the face swollen.
He said a report was made to the police who searched fruitlessly for Danso.
ACP Atadana said in the course of their investigations, the Oda Police had a hint that Danso had taken refuge at Miaso in the Upper Manya District, so they contacted the Somanya Police, who in turn assisted them to arrest him on October 9, this year.
During police interrogation, Danso admitted killing Gifty with the help of Acheampong.
