Hundreds of well wishers including Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur and several ministers of state, dignitaries, and functionaries of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have honoured the late President Mills with a thanksgiving service in Cape Coast. The solemn service at the Wesley Methodist Cathedral came nearly 48 hours after the late President was laid to rest at the Asomdwee Park in Accra. In a tribute read by the Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, he stated that the late President Mills exhibited several traits as demonstrated in the Jesus’ Beatitudes sermon as seen in Matthew 5.According to Mr. Amissah-Arthur, Ghanaians need not feel sorry about the death of the late President but rather celebrate his well-lived life and also the numerous achievements he left behind. In his sermon, the Bishop of the Cape Coast Diocese of the Methodist Church, Right Reverend Nicholas Asane rebuked politicians for engaging in what he calls dirty politics and challenged political leaders to take a cue from the late President’s Christ-like attributes in executing his political agenda. The thanksgiving service was witnessed by several dignitaries including the Progressive Peoples’ Party flag bearer, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah as well as the son of the late President, Samuel Atta-Mills.
