Comoros have a monstrous mountain to climb if they are to progress in their bid to reach the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.
Les Coelecantes, as Comoros are nicknamed, are the lowest-ranked team remaining in the African World Cup qualifiers and their task gets no easier as they host Ghana for a first leg qualifier on Friday.
The match is scheduled to get underway at the Stade Said Mohamed Cheikh in Mitsamiouli with kick-off at 3pm (CAT).
Comoros will be hoping home ground gives them a slight advantage in the first leg before heading to Ghana for the return leg on Tuesday, November 17.
Les Coelecantes really have their backs up against the wall with 159 places separating the two teams on the Fifa world rankings. Ghana are ranked 27th while Comoros are in 186th place.
Moreover, Comoros have never won a World Cup qualifying match, losing all four matches they played previous to this year. They only managed to reach this stage of qualifying on the away goals rule after drawing both games against Lesotho in the first round.
The 1-1 draw they earned away from home in Lesotho was enough to see them through and up against Avram Grant's Black Stars.
The two teams have never met in official matches, but the firepower at Ghana’s disposal with the likes of the Ayew brothers, Jordan and Andre, as well as seasoned campaigners like Asamoah Gyan and Jonathan Mensah, will surely be too much for the Comoros.
The only solace Comoros can take is that Ghana suffered a 1-0 loss to Ivory Coast in their most recent match, a friendly in Abidjan on October 30 - and even then, that was the CHAN team.
Still, Ghana are expected to dominate proceedings.
