Are you planning on a glass of wine (or two) this weekend?
Then you'll want to read the piece below, a health expert's verdict on wine and whether its benefits—like helping you avoid certain ailments—outweigh the risks (like liver damage)
The Bottom Line on Wine
Research does indicate a growing range of health benefits from moderate consumption of red wine in particular.
Still, if you don’t currently consume alcohol, DON’T add wine to boost your health. You can enjoy many of the same benefits from antioxidants found in many colorful fruits and vegetables (and even cocoa).
If you do drink, remember that size matters: Stick with one 5-ounce glass or less daily (two for men).
Excess alcohol intake--even from wine--can raise your blood pressure and blood triglycerides, damage your liver, increase your risk of some cancers and depression, and contribute to obesity. And it's always a good idea to check with your doctor for personal advice as general conclusions from research studies don’t always apply to each individual.
