The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has directed the immediate cancellation of a planned welcome ceremony organised by staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ahead of his return to Ghana.
In a social media post on Monday, 30 March, the Minister disclosed that he had become aware of arrangements for a surprise reception at the airport, which the Ministry traditionally organises as a gesture, he noted, to celebrate major national achievements.
While expressing appreciation for the initiative, Mr Ablakwa stated that he had instructed management to halt the plans, insisting that the moment did not call for personal celebration.
“I would have strongly opposed the idea if I had been consulted. This is not a personal victory, and besides, there is more work ahead of us,” he said.
He commended the staff of the Ministry for their dedication and contributions to Ghana’s recent diplomatic efforts, adding that the focus must remain on advancing the country’s interests on the global stage under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
