Three persons aged between 25 and 30 years were on Friday remanded into police custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court for allegedly trying to deposit 220 million cedis fake currency notes at the Bank of Ghana, Kumasi.
The pleas of Yakubu Guruma, Prince Gyan and Jibril Tanko were not taken on the grounds that police was still investigating the case and they will re-appear on May 29.
Police Chief Inspector Francis K. Kusi told the court that on May 14, personnel from the Bureau for National Investigation (BNI) arrested Yakubu at the BoG premises in Kumasi with the said amount.
He said the fake currencies made up of 10,000 and 20,000 notes and bearing the same serial numbers were about to be deposited at the bank by Yakubu and he mentioned two others as his accomplices.
The three mentioned another person as their boss through whom they had the currencies and said their boss ordered them to deposit the fake notes in the various banks in the country.
