Officials of Metro Mass Transport, have arrested a group of porters Kayayei at the main Abrepo Terminal in Kumasi for their involvement in ticket racketeering.
According to the Regional Manager, Mr. Baafuor Osei Wusu, the Kayayei have formed a group and have decided to take advantage of the high patronage of MMT services, particularly up North.
The gang, he alleged, buy tickets at the normal fare, and sell them to passengers who struggle for buses to their various destinations at inflated prices.
He said an undercover police investigator bought a ticket from the gang to join a Navrongo-bound bus from Kumasi at GH¢15, instead of the normal fare of GH¢13.
Members of the gang were immediately arrested and handed over to the Sofo Line Police for further investigations.
Mr Osei Wusu appealed to the general public, especially passengers, to desist from buying tickets outside the designated booths at terminals, and not to hesitate to contact any MMT Official at any terminal whenever they are in doubt, or confronted with a problem.
He reiterated that the mission of the MMT was to provide affordable transportation, and hoped passengers would help in achieving this goal.
