The dispute between Pharmaceutical drugs importer, Tobinco Pharmaceuticals and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) is far from being resolved as the latter locked up warehouses belonging to the former.
The two parties have failed to reach a common ground on an alert issued about some products imported by Tobinco Pharmaceuticals. The FDA in October, banned the importation and distribution of all medicinal products manufactured by Bliss GVS Pharma Limited of India into Ghana.
Some pharmacists in various parts of the country have already been invited by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), as investigations proceed into the distribution of Tobinco's drugs.
Now, the company’s warehouses and factories throughout the country are being closed down.
On Thursday evening, a team from the FDA and EOCO stormed the company’s facility at Spintex road in Accra and attempted to lock it up.
Joy News gathered it was an angry clash between the officials of the team and staff of the company.
Frederick Asamoah, lawyer for Tobinco, told Joy News the facility that was visited by the combined team, belongs to a “sister company” of Tobinco.
He said the facility was put up to manufacture drugs but has not started operation yet.
Additionally, he noted that workers at the facility resisted the attempt by the team to lock up the place because they had no search warrant.
Mr. Asamoah further pointed out that the workers rather decided to lock up the facility themselves to prevent the officials of EOCO and FDA from getting access to the place.
