Former Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata, was on Sunday admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra after suffering an asthma attack.Tsatsu was first rushed to the 37 Military Hospital from where he was referred to Korle Bu.Brother and lawyer Fui Tsikata confirmed in a phone interview with Myjoyonline.com that Tsatsu suffered a sudden severe attack late Saturday night and could only be taken to hospital on Sunday morning, “which made his condition a bit dangerous.”He added, “Thankfully he has recovered and doing well.”Asked why Tsatsu had to seek qualified care on Sunday morning instead of the Saturday night when he had the seizure, Fui explained that it was more of a logistics challenge for the Nsawam Hospital where he received first aid than any deliberate attempt on the part of anyone to deny him. Tsatsu is serving a five-year jail term at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.“He is indeed doing fine,” he maintained.Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata was on June 18, 2008 sentenced to five years in jail for willfully causing financial loss of over GH¢230,000 to the state by the Accra Fast Track High Court presided over by Justice Henrietta Abban.Tsatsu was pronounced guilty of three counts of willfully causing financial loss and another count of misapplying public property and handed a five-year prison term on each, with the sentences running concurrently. He pleaded not guilty throughout his trial and made several but unsuccessful bids to overturn his conviction.Story by Isaac Yeboah
