Two people have been shot dead in two different buses by armed robbers on the Tamale-Navrongo Highway.
Police have confirmed the incident and suspect nine fulani herdsmen were behind the attack.
Police Public Relations Officer in Northern Region Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh told Joy News two buses were headed to Navrongo from Kumasi when the incident occurred.
He said the robbers laid ambush at Navrongo and opened fire on the first bus killing the driver instantly in the process around 1:00am Monday morning.
“The airlock of the bus got locked and so it was impossible for the robbers to enter the bus and rob the passengers,” he explained.
He said the robbers turned attention on the second bus and opened fire which hit one of the passengers.
The bodies of the victims have been sent to the Tamale Teaching Hospital morgue while the police are yet to arrest any of the perpetrators.
Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh was unequivocal that most of the robberies at the stretch of the road are plotted by persons said to be of Fulani extraction.
