Two records were broken by the Volta Region in the athletics competition of the 28th Inter-Regional Basic Schools Sports Festival at the Schools and Colleges Park at Cape Coast.
Martin Etse from the Volta Region broke the long jump record with a leap of 6.50 metres to erase the old record of 6.24 metres set by the Greater Accra Region in 2000 with his colleague Hector Godsway shattering the javelin record with a throw of 47.3 metres to break the previous record of 46.20 metres set by his regional team in 2000.
In the boys division, Ashanti Region came first with 95 points followed by the Volta Region with 90 points with the Central Region placing third with 88 points.
Eastern Region took the fourth position with 67 points, Greater Accra Region came fifth with 41 points while the Western Region came sixth with 40 points.
Brong Ahafo Region placed seventh with 35 points, Northern Region eighth with 18 points, Upper East Region was ninth with seven points while Upper West Region came last with no point.
In the girls division, Central Region bagged 95 points to place first followed by the Western Region with 70 points, Ashanti Region came third with 68 points while Upper East Region came fourth with 56 points.
Eastern Region came 5th with 51 points, Volta Region placed 6th with 41 points with the Brong Ahafo Region coming seventh with 37 points.
Greater Accra took the 8th position with 34 points, Northern Region was ninth with 27 points while Upper West came last with one point.
