Two out seven persons who survived the Monday morning accident that killed 24 people on the Tamale-Buipe Road in the Northern Region are in critical condition at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).
The male and female survivors are on a life support aid at the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital while the other five which included a year old baby are responding to treatment.
Mr Nii Otu Ankrah, Public Relations Officer of the TTH made this known when Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba, Caretaker Regional Minister and members of the Regional Security Council visited the Hospital.
He said relatives of the dead are identifying and retrieving the mortal remains.
Mr Mabengba said recently road crashes in the Region had claimed the lives of productive people and had made travelling unsafe especially for traders.
He described the incidence as a “black day in the history of the Region” and called on all and sundry to support the National Road Safety Commission and the Ghana Police Service to help reduce road crashes.
Mr Mabengba asked passengers to begin to question drivers who over speed.
Mr Marcelinus Weber, Director of Administration at the TTH said the hospital would give the survivors the best of medical care to ensure their speedy recovery.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Kinsley Owusu Antwi told the media that a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicle traveling from Kumasi to Tamale had a head-on-collision with a KIA truck from Tamale to Buipe market carrying cattle.
