Graduate students at the University of Ghana (UG)are threatening to hit the streets next week to protest what they say is the long delay in the payment of their bursaries and grants. The students say the government has failed to pay them their bursaries for last academic year. Leaders of the graduate students tell Joy News they have exhausted all avenues to have the grants paid. Some say they have consequently been compelled to defer their courses while others have lost their residential status. The President of GRASAG at Legon, Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah told Joy News that “If there is any avenue we are yet to exhaust then that avenue is yet to be created. We have gone to the seat of government, we have gone to the Ministries of Education, Finance, the GET-Fund, we have [been to] every single quarter and individual concerned in this matter.” Mr. Otchere-Ankrah says the graduate students will hit the streets if their monies are not paid by next week.
