University of Ghana is to take on the University of Arusha, Tanzania in episode two of the ongoing International Championship Festival of the Zain Africa Challenge(ZAC)programme. Being its first time of participating in the competition, the University of Ghana is expected to prove itself a leading university on the continent. The clash between the two universities would be shown on Metro TV come Saturday between 9:00-9:30pm with a later broadcast on Sunday between 8:00-8:30 on TV3. The competition promises to be the most exciting as the six contestants, three each from a side, rack their brains to answer some of the most difficult questions in the fast-paced quizzical show. The just ended episode saw the Makerere University of Uganda defeating and pushing out of the contest the University of Malawi. Despite the brilliance displayed by the three member team from the University of Malawi, the trio from the Makerere University proved themselves a better side, netting a total of 660 marks. By this, the latter has booked a slot in the quarter final stage of the contest. Their counterpart, however have come to the end of the road for this season. For their effort, the University earned an amount of $10,000 while each contestant got a $1000. Initiated in 2005, ZAC is the first ever televised Pan African intellectual quiz among universities within Africa. The competition is open to English-speaking Zain-operated countries, involving Universities from eight countries including Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. The objective of this initiative is to develop the intellect of Africa’s youth and highlight the excellent educational opportunities that African Universities offers its citizens.
