The Ghana Heart Foundation's efforts to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease through public education and research got a boost on Thursday with the injection of GH¢5,000 (¢50 million) by Unique Trust Financial Services.
The donation was made up of GH¢2,000.00 (¢20 million) for the Ghana Heart Foundation to assist the work of the National Cardio-Thoracic Centre at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, whilst 3,000.00 new Ghana cedis (30 million) was to develop and broadcast promotional materials on Ghana Television.
Captain Budu Koomson (Rtd) Director of Operations, Unique Trust said the Trust deemed it a national duty to support what the Centre was doing for Ghanaians.
Three other institutions also received various sums of money to help in their operational duties.
They were the Ghana National Trust Fund, GH¢5,000.00 (50 million cedis), Ghana Society for the Blind, GH¢5,000.00 (50 million cedis), Hope for Kids, GH¢6,000.00 (60 million cedis).
Capt. Koomson assisted by Ms. Pearl Esua-Mensah, Director of Finance and Administration and Ms Christian Esi Ansah, Osu Branch Manager presented the cheques on behalf of the bank to the four institutions.
Capt. Koomson said the Cardio Centre was a noble institution, which should be supported to acquire the necessary facilities that would help its work, stressing that, the promotional broadcast on Ghana Television during prime time would create the necessary awareness for people to donate towards the centres operations.
He tasked Ghana Television to develop the appropriate public relations material to challenge people to understand the need to support the Ghana Heart Foundation.
The Cheques were received by Dr. Lawrence Serebuor, Head of Ghana Heart Foundation, Ms. Alimata Abdul-Karimu, Programme Manager of Ghana Society for the Blind, Ms. Joyce Frimpong, Executive Secretary, Ghana National Trust Funds and Ms. Eyonam Kumodzi Darko Executive Director, Hope for Kids.
