The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ernest Aryeetey, has outlined a number of developmental projects executed and being carried out by the university authorities to give a facelift to the school.
According to the Vice Chancellor, those projects are not only to improve accommodation and make life comfortable for students on campus, but to also enhance and facilitate academics at the university.
Prof. Aryeetey was speaking on a wide range of issues on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show hosted by Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah on Thursday.
Touching on decongestion, Prof. Aryeetey declared war on non-residential students who have turned themselves into residential students enjoying facilities they have not paid for.
“We have introduced new sanctions applicable to all: you perch and we catch you, we dismiss you. You lose your studentship. You have a choice of whether you want to be a resident or a non-resident. If you choose to be non-resident and you come through the back door and use a facility which others are paying for, you are cheating them and we have every right to sanction you and we are going to police that…
“We are making it mandatory that anybody entering any student facility has to show an ID card, it is an old rule which we are going to implement in a much more effective manner,” he stressed.
He also talked about the Amina Haruna’s striping incidence at the Mensah Sarbah Hall, describing it as “embarrassing”.
He said the ignoble action by the students has dented the image of the University of Ghana, both locally and internationally, and promised to sanction the students involved accordingly.
