General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Frank Serebour has rejected the National Peace Council's appeal to striking doctors to rescind their decision and go back to the wards.

According to him, calling off the strike is not on the agenda of the GMA unless they reach an agreement with government over their conditions of service.

Dr. Frank Serebour was speaking Monday evening on Adom FM’s Burning Issues programme with Afia Pokua.

The impasse between government and the GMA seem to be getting worse after negotiation with government hit a snag. The situation became murkier after some government communicators dared them to resign.

The Chairman of National Peace Council, Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante called on the striking doctors to as a matter of urgency rescind their decision to resign en masse and come to a compromise with government.

General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), Right Revered Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, has also appealed to the striking doctors to end the strike and allow government to address the emerging culture of strikes in the country.

The doctors on Friday entered phase two of their strike by shutting down all emergency services. They have deserted the hospitals

But the GMA says the call by the clergymen is a bit late.

Dr. Serebour on Adom FM's Burning Issues programme expressed disappointment in both the Peace Council and Christian Council who fail to act even when they petitioned them to intervene in the matter last year.

“Where was the National Peace Council and the Christian Council when we petitioned them over our condition of service last year,” Dr. Frank Serebour quizzed.

Dr. Serebour pleaded with the general public to rather call the government to order.
