The Upper East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) on Friday denied a publication in the Daily Dispatch that the council awarded contracts for the provision of school infrastructure without going through the tendering process.
A statement issued by the Acting Regional Coordinating Director, Mr. Gilbert Nuri-teg explained that advertisement for the project appeared in the Ghanaian Times edition of February 6, 2010 and meant for Bawku Technical Institute and not Bawku Senior High/Technical School as stated by the publication.
The RCC expressed regret that the newspaper failed to investigate the information before publishing what it described as a one-sided story.
"We do not want to believe that some faceless individuals, with diabolical intentions against the RCC and its heads are behind the story but the one-sided stand taken by the news paper raises a legitimate question about the credibility of the story," it said.
The statement asked the Daily Dispatch to retract the story and apologise since it was clear that the paper published an untrue and unauthenticated story with the aim of damaging the image of the council.
