Lawyer and sympathiser of the New Patriotic Party Ursula Owusu is intrigued with the alacrity the police has processed her driver for court for road traffic offence.She prays the police will act in the same manner in the matter involving the National Democratic Congress’ Women Organiser, Anita De Souza who is alleged to have run her vehicle into some NPP sympathisers during the Atiwa Bye-election.Ursula and her driver were arrested Tuesday at Amasaman, on the outskirts of Accra, for over speeding.Amasaman police commander Isaac Kojo Asante told Joy News’ Elvis Adjetey his men followed due process of law in charging the driver and processing him for court.He also accused the NPP sympathiser of misconduct.“Madam (Ursula) when she came here she would not even allow me to talk, saying I should allow her to get things out of her chest. I am even told that she ordered her driver to move. So they chased her to arrest her.“Do we always have to arrest trotro drivers? No. What is good for the trotro driver is equally good for a police officer, is equally good for a politician, is equally good for a doctor, is equally good for someone who is high standing in the society,” he stated.He said if death should occur as a result of over speeding that death will be no respecter of persons.But Ursula Owusu has dismissed allegations of misconduct made against her person.She also dismissed claims that she was running away, saying she was facing the Nsawam end of the road and had to make a U-turn to go to the Amasaman Police Station as directed by the police.She said it was during that process that two dispatch riders chased her, crossed the car and arrested her.“It was there that I lost it,” she screamed, saying she was treated like a “fugitive”, with the police wanting to show her where power lies.She is not in the position to say if her driver exceeded the speed limit as claimed by the police, but said she is ready to pay the fine the court might slap on her driver on Wednesday.However, she has a caution for the police; “If the law says you are over speeding and you will be charged, so be it. But if the law says you drive dangerously and endanger other people and injure them that same law should be applied with dispatch.“If somebody can run their car into a group of people at a check point and be allowed to walk scot-free because she is NDC, and yet my driver is over speeding and they treat me with such scant respect and make all kind of vile aspersions against me, then we live in a very sick country indeed.” Play the attached audio for excerpts of the interviews Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
