Executive Director for IFEST Peter Anti has called for strict regulation on the use of technology in various schools to prevent its abuse.
Mr Anti says technology recently has become an integral part of the educational system especially with the rise of Covid-19. However, it needs to be regulated to prevent students from misappropriating it.
"We cannot rule out the role of technology in our education system especially at this time that we've seen that there is a challenge with continuing physical education and therefore students will have to continue education online.
However, in as much as we would want to allow students to use these gadgets on campus, it must come with the requisite restriction and of course we need to make sure that they do not abuse its use," he said on the AM show Monday.
His comments come after some students were seen in various videos displaying various acts of indiscipline over the unhappiness with the difficulty of their test papers in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Exam (WASSCE).
While some students rioted, hurling insults at the president, others were seen vandalising school properties, assaulting invigilators and journalists.
Despite the misdemeanour of the students, Mr Anti says the option of using technology to facilitate education in the country must not be ruled out especially with the presence of Covid-19 in the country.
"I have listened to the Ghana Education Service(GES). I think the board chair was saying that the use of the mobile phone as an educational tool has started in some of the schools and that they are working around the clock to come out with the modalities of using these gadgets on campus.
"If we really want the students to use these gadgets then we will have to go the extent of (maybe) through the use of technology bar them from accessing these social media platforms on campus or maybe they will have to keep these mobile gadgets with the relevant authorities and when the need comes for it to be used they go for them," he added.
