The Vice President John Dramani Mahama has donated a 60-seater Yuqong air-conditioned bus to Real Tamale United (RTU) FC at a short ceremony at the Tamale Sports Stadium on Friday.
The bus valued at 150,000 Ghana cedis (1.5 billion cedis) is to meet the challenges facing the Club with regards to transportation.
Mr Mahama noted that since RTU has been the “Eye of the North” and has over the years served as a source of motivation for the youth and a unifying factor for the people of the north, it must be given the necessary support to succeed in the premiership.
He said RTU has exhibited a good measure of resilience over the years even in the face of daunting challenges but was hopeful that an attempt to rejuvenate the Club would be given the necessary support to enable it win the Premier League next year.
The Vice President paid glowing tribute to the former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama for being supportive of the club and promised that he would continue from where his predecessor left.
Mr Mahama proposed the establishment of a Sports Academy in the North that would ensure the development of sporting talents for all disciplines.
On the rumpus by the supporters of RTU over the technical direction of the club, the Vice President pleaded with them to give the coach Abdul Razak and his team a chance to improve themselves in the coming season.
He said the technical have been given two conditions by ensuring that the Club is among the top eight by the first half of the season and to see to it that the it emerges among the first top clubs by the end of the season or risk being fired.
Mr Mahama therefore urged the supporters to bury their difference and rally behind the club not only regains its home invisibility but also be amongst the best Clubs in the country.
The Vice President later handed over the keys of the bus to the Northern Regional Minister Mr Stephen Sumani Nayina, who is the Life Patron of the Club.
Mr Nayina assured that the bus will be put to good use for the benefit of the club in order to derive the maximum benefit from it.
Mr Nayina handed the keys to Alhaji Adam Munkaila Admun, a management member of the Club.
