The immediate past Deputy Communications Minister, Victoria Hamah has failed to appear before a committee set up to investigate her claims that the 2012 Election Petition verdict was compromised.

The allegations were contained in a leaked tape recording on which Ms. Hamah was heard trumpeting the influential role Nana Oye Lithur, Minister of Women, Gender and Social Protection played in securing a favourable verdict for President John Mahama and the governing Natinal Democratic Congress (NDC). 

She was explaining to another person on phone how foolhardy it was for her colleague deputy Minister in the Gender Ministry, Rachel Appoh to be involved in a row with her own substantitive minister, Oye Lithur.

The Gender Minister Oye Lithur has since vehemently denied allegations she played a role in the election petition verdict, swearing she never met with any judge prior to the verdict, as alleged by Ms. Hamah.

Victoria Hamah has since lost her job as a result, but that did not stop the New Patriotic Party  from petitioning the Chief Justice to look into the allegation.

The party argued the content of the leaked tape recording had every possibility of undermining the integrity of Ghana's judicial system if the claims were not investigated and dealt with.

The Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood then constituted a nine-member panel, headed by Justice Date-Baah (Retd.) to investigate the veracity of the claims on the leaked tape.

The committee, nonetheless announced it was beginning its hearing in camera today and extended invitations to Victoria Hamah and the petitioner Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie to appear before it.

Citi FM however, reported that the sacked Deputy Minister did not show up.

No official reasons were assigned for her failure to attend the sitting, sources at the Judicial Service have said.

It is not clear yet what the Committee will do under the circumstances.
