Leading Mobile telecommunications company, Vodafone Ghana Limited have agreed in principle to be headline sponsors of the 2016 Unity match.
The match aims to maintain peace before and after the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections on November 7.
According to a statement released by Primeval Media – organisers of the event - the two leg friendly matches slated for June 8 and June 11 in Accra and Kumasi has since been named the Vodafone Unity Match.
The statement said "Vodafone Ghana was delighted to be involved with former Black Stars Skipper Stephen Appiah's efforts to use football to promote peace".
Appiah who was recently named peace ambassador has been a unifying force for Ghana since his playing days and he has not relented in his efforts even in retirement.
Vodafone Ghana, Appiah and Primeval media share in this laudable vision and are hopeful that their partnership will make the two legged Vodafone Unity match which will be played at the Baba Yara Stadium and the Accra sports stadium respectively, a massive success.
Appiah is expected to lead a world XI side which will include former Arsenal duo, Sol Campbell and William Gallas as well as Manchester United legends; Dwight Yorke and Louis Saha to play Kumasi Asante Kotoko and the Black Stars in Kumasi and Accra Respectively.
