Parliamentary aspirants of the New Patriotic Party in the Volta Region have been made to sign a bond of good behaviour.
This bond is to ensure that the aspirants conduct themselves in a manner that will not jeopardise Saturday’s polls.
The NPP will go the polls tomorrow - Saturday June 13, 2015 - to select parliamentary candidates for the 2016 general elections.
Despite recent internal wrangling that resulted in the death of the party’s Upper East Regional Chairman Adams Mahama, the party says it is ready to conduct the polls.
Regional Executives of the party in the Volta Region have threatened to reprimand any candidate who breaches the bond.
Supporters who cause mayhem during the elections will also be duly reprimanded by the party leadership.
The bond is also to ensure that all aspirants will accept the outcome of the polls no matter what happens.
Vice Chairman of the party in the region, Dr Archibald Yao Letsah says “we’ve gone through the issues and all the candidates have signed undertakings to make sure that everything ends peacefully”
“They have agreed that whatever the results, they will all abide by the decision of the electoral college so we don’t anticipate any difficulties anywhere. We expect that the Volta Region will have peaceful elections”, he added.
He added that the police will be present at all polling stations and anyone who is found doing anything contrary to the rules will be dealt with by the law.
Meanwhile, 30 constituencies have been exempt from Saturday’s polls.
According to a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong this is due to outstanding issues relating to the primaries which are still being addressed.
