The Police in the Upper West Regional capital, Wa have launched an investigation into a case of assault against a 15-year-old boy.
The victim, Fuseini Alim, is reported to have been hit on the head with a short gun by a former District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Wa West District Assembly, Adamu Dasaana.
Alim suffered severe wound on the head, officials say.
Speaking to Joy News, Public Relations Officer, Joy Afagbezi, registered his misgivings about the assault of the minor.
He disclosed the victim walked to the police station “accompanied by the father to lodge the complaint.” “We then issued him with a medical form even though he has already sought treatment,” he said.
But in a twist, the family returned to the police station to withdraw the case. “Not quite long after he came back again in the company of the father to express their desire for the case to be withdrawn for an amicable settlement", Joy Afagbezi said.
According to the police commander, it was when the police quizzed the father of the victim about the identity of the culprit that they realised the former DCE of the area caused the harm.
He revealed the police ‘have extended an invitation to the [former] DCE to assist the police in the investigation.”
He, however, noted that “even though the complainant expresses his desire to withdraw the case we haven’t done that yet. We are still pursuing the case.”
Meanwhile, Joy News has gathered that the former DCE, sensing police investigation, has since bolted from the community where the incident occurred.
