The flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has promised to look into reports of the national amputee team, the Black Challenge, being owed allowances for their performances and ensure they receive due payment.
The Black Challenge are reportedly owed allowances following their successful campaign at the 2024 Amputee Africa Cup of Nations (AAFCON).
Ghana beat Morocco in the final of the competition which was held in Egypt to clinch a second successive AAFCON trophy following their triumph in Tanzania.
However, the team is yet to receive their due payment and Bawumia is willing to ensure they receive payment for their owed allowances.
"Looking at the national amputee team who are owed some allowances, I will talk to the Sports Minister to get the facts on the issue and if that is the case we will try to expedite their payment," said Bawumia during his engagement with the press on Sunday, August 25.
"When I leave here, I am going to raise that issue."
The team has faced financial difficulties in recent years, including having to buy "jerseys from Kantamanto" for the 2024 AAFCON.
Meanwhile, they have now secured their place in the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Panama.
