Presidential aide, Nii Lantey Vanderpuiye says the NPP’s intention to implement its ‘all-die-be-die’ mantra in the Odododiodoo constituency in the Greater Accra Region, and attempts to bus in outsiders to register for the 2012 elections will be resisted at all cost.
Lantey Vanderpuiye, who is contesting the constituency parliamentary seat on the ticket of the ruling NDC, accused the NPP of indulging in several electoral malpractices in the ongoing nationwide biometric registration exercise.
The NPP National Chairman Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey has in an open letter to the President Mills cited an alleged attack on NPP supporters at Odododiodoo during which persons alleged to be Castle assigns brandished guns.
But Mr Vanderpuiye told Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoh that the NPP are rather behind attacks in the constituency, and “just turning the cap on another head”. He also denied an alleged clash between NPP and NDC supporters there, saying the recent incident was between NPP supporters and the Zongo Lane Youth Association.
“The NPP people are portraying their ‘all-die-be-die’ business in Odododiodoo. They are bussing people, they bring in thugs, they are bringing in people who don’t live within the constituency, and when the people in the constituency try to prevent them, it creates a melee. We have evidence...”
He insisted that while they are determined to ensure that persons within the constituency are registered, outsiders would be prevented from registering.
“The people of the constituency are determined to protect the integrity of the registration exercise. The NPP can bring out their thugs, they can do everything but the people in the constituency are bigger and outnumber those thugs.
“I want to assure him (Jake) and the country that we will not perpetrate any violence. We are going to work together with the security services and make sure that we protect the integrity of the registration exercise.
“If the NPP think they can beat Nii Lantey Vanderpuiye, they should let the people who reside within the constituency decide their leader. They cannot import people from other constituencies into our constituency. This we will resist and resist with our blood,” he warned.
But Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey claimed Mr Vanderpuiye is raising issues he believed are “extraneous to the events of the 90s”, describing him as a “gifted speaker” in his narration of the events at Odododiodoo.
He repeated calls for the removal of the district police commander in the area, claiming the officer “has shown himself incapable of” handling the situation there.
