The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, has sharply rebuked the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, in the wake of the Electoral Commission’s declaration of seven out of nine contested parliamentary seats in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on TV3 on Saturday, 21 December, during the re-collation process at the EC’s Greater Accra regional office, Mr Dafeamekpor accused the NPP of political manipulation to secure a parliamentary majority.
He described the actions of the Majority Leader and his party as a blatant disregard for legal proceedings.
“When a matter is in court, don’t you respect the judicial process? Today, Afenyo is holding a press conference, praising the outcomes of exercises that are still pending before the Supreme Court. And then he tells me to accept it in good faith because we are brothers. We are not brothers, Afenyo, we are not!” Mr Dafeamekpor said, evidently frustrated.
The MP also criticized the NPP’s approach to politics, accusing the party of employing underhanded tactics to win elections. He specifically called out Mr Afenyo-Markin for what he termed as fabrications designed to bolster his public statements.
“Some of these falsehoods, Afenyo should desist from this conduct. He must stop concocting stories to embellish his press conferences,” Mr Dafeamekpor asserted.
He further warned of political consequences, pledging accountability should the National Democratic Congress takeover power.
“They may hold government positions now, but the real power has slipped from their grasp and is transitioning to us. When we take over, we will demonstrate where true power lies,” he warned.
