The President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology Ghana (IET-GH), Engr. Davor Wonder Salami, has called for sustained investment in engineering education, innovation and professional development as Ghana joins the rest of the world to mark World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development.
In a statement to commemorate the day, Engr. Salami celebrated the invaluable role engineers continue to play in national development and global sustainability.
“Engineering remains the backbone of infrastructure delivery, environmental protection, industrial growth and technological advancement,” he said.
“In Ghana, engineers continue to play a critical role in addressing challenges confronting the country, climate change, sanitation, resilient infrastructure, energy transition and sustainable urban development.”
He reaffirmed his outfit's commitment to promoting ethical practice, innovation, and professional excellence within the engineering profession.
“As an Institution, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting ethical practice, innovation and professional excellence,” Engr. Salami stated.
“We also encourage young people to pursue engineering careers, knowing that the future of our nation’s development depends on their skills, creativity and integrity.”
The IET-GH President called for stronger collaboration between government, industry, academia and professional bodies to build a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Ghana.
He also commended engineers working across key public and private institutions for their dedication to improving living conditions nationwide.
Engineers at the Tema Oil Refinery, Volta River Authority, Electricity Company of Ghana, Ghana Grid Company Limited, Ghana Highways Authority, Ghana Standards Authority, Ghana Water Company Limited and the Community Water and Sanitation Agency were among those acknowledged.
“As we commemorate this year’s celebration, we express deep appreciation to all engineers across the country whose dedication, innovation and professionalism continue to drive development while responding to the growing challenges of climate change, urbanisation and environmental sustainability,” the statement noted.
Engr. Salami stressed that certification, policy development and infrastructure expansion must be backed by continuous capacity building and research.
“We call on all stakeholders to continue investing in engineering education, professional development and innovation, as these remain essential pillars for achieving sustainable development in Ghana,” he urged.
