President J. A. Kufuor has advised polytechnic graduates to take advantage of the numerous business opportunities in the country and set up their own businesses. "You must strive to be self-employed and employ others rather than chasing non-existent jobs on the work market," he said. The President’s advice was contained in a speech read on his behalf at the second graduation ceremony of Tamale Polytechnic at the weekend. He said as they enter the job market, they must work hard and avoid all acts that derail the national develop-ment programme. President Kufuor reminded the graduates of the need to work hard and be disciplined at all times, stressing "One cannot succeed in life without hard work and determination". He emphasised that polytechnic education was critical to the rapid development of the country and that was why the government was instituting measures to strengthen it to enable it to contribute positively towards the growth of the national economy. President Kufuor said the government has pumped a lots of resources into the provision of infrastructure and other facilities at the Polytechnic. He said the government, through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) had provided several projects at the Tamale Polytechnic which included, a library, adminis-tration block, ICT complex centre, and world class female and male hostel as well as engineering laboratory and staff accommodation.
