Your gym crush could turn into something more – Survey

Sometimes you can't help but flirt with someone at the gym. After all, you have at least one thing in common, right? So if you’ve hit on a woman in between sets, you’re definitely not alone. Lots of people hope to find a potential partner there.

So Ellipticalreviews.com surveyed 1,000 gym-goers about how they approach others when working out. Here’s what they found.

Common factors like having the same workout habits make it easier to make the first move, according to the survey. The website found that those who drink protein shakes and those who flex in the mirror are 2.3 times more likely to hit on someone than those who don’t do either of these things. Those who take supplements are two times more likely to hit on someone than those who don’t, and finally those who regularly take selfies are 1.9 times more likely to flirt.

Overall, 43 percent of women and 21 percent of men have been hit on at the gym, and part of the reason is how they’re dressed. One-third of guys reported being approached at least once during their workout if they were wearing a hoodie or a tank top. However, about half of the women surveyed reported that men made moves on them regardless of what they were wearing at the time.

Unfortunately, sometimes flirting went a little too far, with 45 percent of women and 11 percent of men reporting that someone other than a personal trainer touching them made them uncomfortable.

Offering a girl unsolicited advice or blatantly talking about or gawking at her body are other surefire ways to not score at the gym. Instead, try a random act of kindness, like offering to fill up her water bottle when you’re on your way to fill up yours.

But the good news is that 97 percent of those surveyed reported their initial flirting led to something more, so there is hope. For 66 percent, it turned into a hookup, for 61 percent, it turned into a date, and for 24 percent, it even turned into a relationship.

And there are some pretty sweet benefits to working out with your significant other.

According to scientists at Santa Clara University, people who work out with a partner they feel comfortable with are more energetic and happier than those who work out alone. This can also translate into a better sex life.

So the next time you’re at the gym and someone catches your eye, take a chance. You never know where things might go.
