Mr Mohammed Seidu, alias Maha, Brong Ahafo Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress, has appealed to the youth in the party to exercise restraint and refrain from acts that would impugn the integrity and image of the party. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the youth organizer advised the youth to live by the declaration made by President Mills at his inauguration, that he would be the father of all Ghanaians. He said the country's multi-party democracy had matured and it was incumbent on members of the party to respect the ideals of the founder of the party, former President J.J. Rawlings, under whose administration the national constitutions was promulgated. Mr Seidu urged the youth of the party to be circumspect and allow the rule of law to operate, instead of thinking of the government or the party wreaking vengeance on fellow Ghanaians for "the pain and anguish” they went through during the NPP regime. He dismissed claims and criticisms that the Mills government was slow to act on perceived nation-wreckers, saying as a Professor of Law, President Mills knew what he was doing and must therefore be allowed to serve the people, who had voted him to power. Referring to agitations by some discontent youth of the party, who felt the NDC government must apply punitive measures against political opponents as well as members of the party whose performances they claimed had fallen short of their expectations, Maha reiterated that the return of the NDC signified the dawn of a new era, which meant a complete change from the past. "The era of winner takes all is past and the current times demands that all Ghanaians, irrespective of their political affiliation, must support the Mills administration to succeed so that in future nobody will think that winning power would mean sharing Ghana as a booty", the youth organizer added. Mr Seidu appealed to the youth of the party to think seriously about President Mills' message of reconciliation since it would not augur well for the country's democracy and development for anybody to be persecuted without investigations into alleged crimes committed. He stated that it was Ghana's first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah whose administration created the Brong Ahafo region but it was rather former President Rawlings and the NDC who developed it and called on the youth in the region to avoid acts that would damage the reputation, peace and the development record of the party. "We cannot go about visiting our frustrations out of any disappointments on perceived enemies of the party but to rather rally solidly behind the government and support personalities occupying important positions in the regions, to enable the party to chalk successes for the benefit of all Ghanaians", Mr Seidu added. The regional youth organizer expressed gratitude to the country's farmers on the occasion of the farmers' day celebration and urged the youth to embrace agriculture as a profession instead of saying that there are no jobs for them.
