Two NPP supporters, a man and his wife are said to have died after taking part in activities to welcome the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and his running mate to Tamale over the weekend.
The incident occurred along the Aboao market road when the couple was hit by a tanker, hours after welcoming Nana Addo to Tamale.
An eye witness, Musah Alhassan said reckless motor bike riders caused the accident.
“He was going home with his wife but they all lost their lives instantly”, the eye witness narrated.
They have since been buried.
Meanwhile, Nana Akufo-Addo and his running mate, Dr. Muhamudu Bawumia joined a large number of Muslim worshippers at the Tamale Central Mosque in the Northern Regional capital for a national thanksgiving service.
They prayed for peaceful Presidential and Parliamentary elections in December.
The ceremony brought together Imams and spiritual leaders from Tamale and nearby towns led by the Chief Imam of the Tamale central mosque, Alhaji Adam Salam.
Addressing enthusiastic supporters after the Muslim prayers, Nana Akufo-Addo thanked the people of the North for their support in the last elections and asked for their continued support and prayers in the upcoming December polls.
He said with Muhamudu Bawumia on his side, his vision of transforming the economy to provide free education and jobs for the youth will materialize.
On his part, Dr. Bawumia told the teeming supporters at the ceremony to take his nomination as a victory for all.
“My nomination is for all of us. Whether, Dagomba, Nanumba, Gonja, Konkomba, Kusasi, Akan, or Mamprusi, it is for us all.
What is important is that we support Nana to be president so that we can bridge the gap between the north and south and create opportunities for every Ghanaian” he said.
Earlier on Saturday, the flag bearer of the NPP and his running mate visited Walewale and Naleirugu where a grand durbar of chiefs and people was held in their honour.
Dr. Bawumia was officially introduced to the Nayiri, the overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area and his people.
The Nayiri and the people assured them of their support.
