Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor has stated that over 20 million seedlings will be planted this year under the GreenGhana project.
According to the Minister, these will comprise both economic and commercial seedlings.
Speaking on JoyFM's Super Morning Show, on Wednesday, June 8, he stated that this year, "we are planting mahogany, we are planting wawa, we are planting rosewood, coconut, palm, mango and orange trees."

In addition to this, he stated that, "we are collaborating with the parks and gardens department of the Ministry of Local Government to plant ornamental trees on the avenues of our capital cities so that we can beautify the capital cities of the regions of our country."
Mr. Jinapor said the seedlings will be free and will be available at all Forestry Commission offices, District Assemblies, various malls across the country, etc. He, thus, entreated the general public to participate in the exercise.
"This is a very comprehensive programme, well thought through and well organized. What is just required is that we mobilise ourselves to get this going and to go planting.
“We are engaging with Corporate Ghana to adopt compartments, plant in those compartments. Those compartments will be branded in their names and we are equally prepared to even get into ownership partnership with Corporate Ghana and the whole concept of carbon trading," he said.
This is the second edition of the project. It will be held on Friday, June, 10, 2022.
It was started last year under the Akufo-Addo-led administration and forms part of efforts to preserve and protect the country’s forest cover and the environment at large and has been declared an annual event by the President.
Individuals and Corporate individuals who want seedlings to plant should contact the following numbers: 0244643780 and 0208290797.
